Memorial Day is more than seven months away, so the closures and beach plans below are from 2026, labeled as such, from St. Johns County’s 2026 Memorial Day office hours and 2026 beach shuttle notice. 2027 dates come from the library calendar and the school district calendar.

Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31. It honors the men and women who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. Ponte Vedra Beach is unincorporated, so St. Johns County runs the services and beaches that change over the holiday weekend. County questions go to 904-209-0655.

The beach weekend (2026 plan)

The county calls Memorial Day weekend one of the busiest holiday weekends on its beaches. In 2026, it:

  • Ran a free shuttle from Cornerstone Park, 1046 A1A N., to Mickler’s Landing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday, May 23-25, plus a second shuttle in St. Augustine Beach.
  • Stationed lifeguards from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the Sheriff’s Office, the St. Augustine Beach Police Department and Marine Rescue patrolling. Beach flags show water and surf conditions; the county says no flag does not mean no danger.
  • Allowed on-beach driving from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in marked lanes where driving is permitted. The county’s beach toll booths, where drivers go onto the sand, are all south of Ponte Vedra Beach, from Vilano Beach to Crescent Beach.

Beach rules year-round: no alcohol, glass, fireworks or open fires, and dogs on a leash, including in the water, per the county’s beach rules. Sea turtle nesting season begins May 1; through Oct. 31, beach fires and grills are banned from 7:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.

What is open and closed

From the county’s 2026 notice:

  • Closed on Memorial Day: all county offices, library branches and bookmobiles, and the Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections and Clerk of Court offices.
  • Trash and recycling: collected on the normal schedule, with no delay.
  • Transfer stations: Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road open standard hours.
