Labor Day 2027 is 11 months away, so the closures and beach plans below are from 2026, labeled as such, from St. Johns County’s 2026 Labor Day office hours and 2026 beach shuttle notice. 2027 dates come from the library calendar and the school district’s 2027-28 calendar.

Labor Day 2027 is Monday, Sept. 6. It is the last long beach weekend of summer and comes about four weeks after St. Johns County students return to class on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2027. Ponte Vedra Beach is unincorporated, so St. Johns County runs the beaches, offices and trash service; county questions go to 904-209-0655.

The beach weekend (2026 plan)

The county calls Labor Day weekend one of the busiest holiday weekends on its beaches. In 2026:

  • Free shuttle: from Cornerstone Park, 1046 A1A N., to the Mickler’s Landing parking lot, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday, Sept. 5-7.
  • Lifeguards: St. Johns County Marine Rescue lifeguards on duty 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the Sheriff’s Office, the St. Augustine Beach Police Department and Marine Rescue patrolling. Beach flags show water and surf conditions; no flag does not mean no danger.
  • Beach driving: 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in marked lanes where driving is permitted. The county’s toll booths for driving on the sand are all south of Ponte Vedra Beach.

Beach rules: no alcohol, glass, smoking, vaping, fireworks or open fires, and dogs leashed, including in the water. Labor Day falls in sea turtle nesting season (May 1 to Oct. 31), when beach fires and grills are banned from 7:30 p.m. to 8 a.m., per the county’s beach rules. Beyond the beach

The GTM Research Reserve’s trails and beach lots, south of Mickler’s Landing on A1A, are open 8 a.m. to sunset every day for $3 a vehicle, and Guana Outpost South rents kayaks, paddleboards and bikes at the Guana Dam from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the reserve says. Its visitor center is closed on state holidays.

  • Trash, recycling and yard waste: regular schedule, no holiday delays.
  • Transfer stations: Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road open standard hours.

For 2027, the library calendar shows libraries closed Monday, Sept. 6, reopening Tuesday, Sept. 7, and the school district lists Sept. 6 as a student and teacher holiday.
